The Laughing Buddha’s Christmas Wish

Here's a funny poem about a real person who called "The Chinese is Santa Claus." I hope you enjoy it.

"The Laughing Buddha's Christmas Wish" by Rodney Robbins

The Laughing Buddha, say legends

Was born in China, on one days old.

His heart was big, and his belly GRAND!

He wore a bowl and a bag near to hand.

Like a Zen Santa, I would say he was

Except as bald as a peach with a hint of FUZZ.

He'd look at each child with a magicalTwinkle

And pull out of the bag in the corner, by a fold

… Just the right gift at just the right time

He would do it without effort or reason or rhyme,

Would say, "Oh, thank you Santa," every child

Except in Chinese, in their inscrutable ways.

I, a young monk asked the great man,

When we are on track to bowl and bag in hand,

"How do you know guess? How do you know?

What gift to give? What to sow seeds? "

The Laughing Buddhagave a big laugh.

He laughed so hard I thought my knees might buckle.

"It's easy, it's fun when you know where to begin:

Picture her face and inside look.

"The greatest gift that does not come in a box to

There is rarely a doll, and it is no more socks.

The greatest gift from the heart.

This is the best place to start. "

The Buddha blinked once, twice, patted his belly,

Then disappeared in a shower of rice.

He sent me the bagHand stuff more.

Why is there something for you, right under this fuzz!

Merry Christmas and a Happy Yuletime for all.
